Conventional insulation agents, such as silanes, siloxanes, methyl methacrylates and even silicates, can only provide general protection of the concrete, without addressing the weakest point, i.e. existing cracks. Insulation agents are most often used as general protection against freeze\/thaw damage, the penetration of airborne contaminants and, to some extent, the effects of de-icing salts.
